We left Kyoto early the next morning and took the bullet train to Hakone, passing by Mount Fuji (again, on a clear day so our luck was in!)
We had booked ourselves a mountain view ryokan at the Aura Tachibana as a treat before heading home the next day. We had a private onsen and it was just wonderful. We had a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats.
There is opportunity to book the rooftop onsen which we did, and the view over the mountains was just spectacular.
We tried all sorts of weird and wonderful food at night in the restaurant whilst being served a kaiseki multi course meal. We relaxed and took in all our memories of the last few weeks.
The next morning we woke to the beautiful view of the mountains and a breakfast like no other. Though I couldn’t quite manage everything on offer at 8’o’clock in the morning, it was a wonderful experience.
We then caught the bullet train back to Tokyo, and from there to the airport to finally landing back in London. It was a culture shock to arrive back in the UK after immersing ourselves in the beautiful culture of Japanese life. We will definitely be back to explore further – Japan definitely holds a special place in our hearts and we are already saving our pennies to return!
