As the title says – I have opened an online shop! Selling my handmade Macramé Plant Hangers and hope to sell more crafts that I make in the future.
I taught myself how to macramé one day when not feeling too well, and I have now been making them as a hobby for a while. One of my friends asked me to sell them at a Christmas fayre at the school she teaches at, so I began making them in bulk. I was encouraged by other friends to sell them on Etsy, so I thought ‘why not’ and so ‘The Fringe Shop‘ was born!
The Fringe shop came from my friend, Natalie of Magpies Vintage. She discovered online that “Macramé comes from a 13th-century Arabic weavers’ word migramah meaning “fringe”, referring to the decorative fringes on camels and horses which help, amongst other things, to keep the flies off the animal in the hot desert regions of northern Africa” , which seems apt since I have a fringe myself!
